The Print and Drawings Collection

The aim of the collection is to supplement and expand the museum’s holdings and its field of study. The archive consists principally of the following:

1. Danish artists’ original drawings and preparatory sketches on paper for applied arts and design.
2. Works on paper by Danish set-designers.
3. Graphic designs on paper (labels, book jackets, record covers, packaging, playing cards) by Danish and foreign artists, including a small Russian collection.
4. Photographs of applied art, both for documentation purposes and as art in its own right.
5. Japanese woodcuts and book production, together with Chinese graphics and calligraphy.
6. European ornamental prints especially from the 16th and 17th centuries.

The collection includes drawings by such artists as G.F. Hetsch, Constantin Hansen, Johan Rohde, Joakim Skovgaard, Thorvald Bindesbøll, Finn Juhl, Poul Kjærholm, Bernadotte & Bjørn, Jacob Jensen, Jan Trägårdh, Bjørn Nørgaard and Vibeke Klint. The collection also encompasses personal notes, scrapbooks and other source material.

Danish industrial graphics is another large field, and is here represented with works by such figures as Thorvald Bindesbøll, Knud V. Engelhardt, Kay Fisker, Gunnar Biilmann-Petersen, Claus Achton Friis, Erik Ellegaard Frederiksen. The archive also contains a collection of printed book jackets, book paper and hand-made paper.
