Founded in 1951 by the visionary Armi Ratia (1913-1979), Marimekko is Finland’s famous textile and design company. Marimekko’s colourful textiles for furniture and fashion design have since then been known all over the world and contributed to the 1950s – 1960s revolution of modern printed textiles and fashion design.

Marimekko was ahead of its time, not only in the designs but also the company’s management strategies were ground-breaking. With great confidence, Armi Ratia created the company’s unique aesthetics, and she succeeded in creating a sparkling and innovative atmosphere for her designers.
The exhibition presents the development of more than 50 years and shows designs from the entire period focusing on the renewed innovation of the brand.
‘Marimekko – the story of a Nordic brand’ is on show from 2 March – 28 May 2007.
